The sync time can be modified. We'll have to start patching our kernel
with various patches anyway.

The noflushd daemon improves this slightly, but not enough. 

As mentioned elsewhere, discussions about this on the kernel mlist have
resulted in a few quick fixes, and hints by Al Viro that these details
will be handled RSN :)
