Hey,

I think we could learn something from: http://f-droid.org/
It's not beautiful or anything, but there are two things I like about
it:

* Applications are built from git, continuously, in the f-droid
  build system (although they *also* support but discourage
  uploads of binaries)
* It's entirely FOSS
