Hi,
the possibility of sound forwarding (following the display) is
important, at least to me. As I don't think "manually start esd or
polypaudio on the target machine and use gstreamer's esd plugin" is the
right answer regarding GNOME's philosophy, would it be possible to:
- always have esd/polypaudio started (but only opening the sound device
on-demand).
- have libgnome's gstreamer output plugin use alsa/oss/whatever when
DISPLAY=:0 and use the remote sound server (designated by DISPLAY)
otherwise.
?
That way we have the best of both worlds: local sound device usage for
most cases, and *automatic* sound forwarding when needed.
