FWIW, Windoze tries to solve this problem by allowing you to open media
files in a sidebar-embedded media player, thus allowing you to keep
browsing in the main part of the window.
Personally I don't see much advantage to doing that over launching an
external media player though, especially as you can't configure it to
embed something better than WMP :)
