Hey everyone!
I've been itching to start contributing to Gnome for about a year now but had to many other projects/commitments to finish up first. Well those commitments are now in the support phase and without some new project to spend my time on I might just go crazy!
My background:
Most of my development experience is in Python and web development. I love working on both native and web based applications. I have some background working with GTK+ and Glade, though I've spent more time recently working with PyQt due to cross platform requirements. By day I work as a web developer at a local college and by night I hack on various projects for various communities. I am the organizer of the Northfield Linux User group (
www.norlug.org) and the Technical Commanding Officer in the Hellbound Soldiers gaming community. Basically I handle most all of their software development, automation, and general administrative stuff. I exclusively run Linux on all my computers, both personal (Arch) and work (Ubuntu GNOME), and a local advocate for Linux and indirectly GNOME.
I've been researching various Core Apps that I'd like to get involved in. The one that jumped out at me at first was Gnome Chat (not empathy). Unfortunately it doesn't look like it's made it out of the design phase yet (
https://wiki.gnome.org/Design/Apps/Chat). My first question is whether or not this project is going to need developers in the near future?
If Gnome Chat is not an active project yet, then my second thought was basically to go wherever the most need is. I haven't used C much since college, but as we all know, it's pretty easy to pick up/refresh a language when needed.
You will find links below to my various online identities including my personal website and my Github account.
Thanks for making GNOME awesome, and I look forward to contributing to it's awesomeness!
