Hi,
I have exactly the same issue.
Some more info:
$ pkg-config --cflags cairo
-I/home/drola/apps/gnome/include/glib-2.0
-I/home/drola/apps/gnome/lib/glib-2.0/include
-I/usr/include/cairo -I/usr/include/pixman-1
-I/usr/include/freetype2 -I/usr/include/libpng12
$ cat config.log | grep CAIRO
configure:16992: checking for CAIRO
configure:17077: checking for CAIRO_FT

I believe CAIRO_CFLAGS should not be empty. Could anybody give
me a hint how to fix it?
