Just a note for everyone:

I don't know olvwm's virtual desktop. But as far as i know it will be very
unlikly the persuade Metacity's maintainer Havoc to add anything more
complicated than the current workspaces. So the "offical" windowmanager of gnome
will be a hard target. So another gnome/kde/freedesktop.org complient window
manager (sawfish is still very popular) might be a better way to add this
feature. Maybe adding gnome support to olvwm.
The Workspace switcher might or might not need some additions.
