I've noticed on the nautilus list recently, a lot of people submitting patches to fix various bugs. And on gnome-love and the Gnome Users' Board there are a lot of people asking for things to do in gnome. There seem to be a lot of people who love gnome and can program and want to give a little back, but really don't know gnome well enough to know where to start. I personally have very limited coding skills but one thing I have is a pretty good knowledge of what's going on in gnome-land. There is a lot that needs doing. There are a lot of bugs, and nautilus has the most of them IIRC. There is one problem: the bugzilla interface is almost completely useless if you don't already have an idea of what you are looking for[1]. So what I'm going to do in this e-mail is list my favorite nautilus bugs in the hope that someone out there who is looking to help out on gnome might pick something off the list and fix it. To view more info on any of these bugs go to http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=[bug #] or use aldug's bugzilla applet: http://www.gnome.org/~aldug/gnome2/bugzilla-applet/ [2] -|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-| General: * 47631: home icon on desktop and the real home directory have separate sets of emblems text thumbnailing doesnt work with gnome-icon-theme * 72960: [Patch]Double-clicking by single clicking two different files quickly * 98461: right clicking on a dir and saying paste should paste into that dir. * views do not scroll when dragging and droping * stop button should stop thumbnail creation * 104653: ctrl modifier should toggle move when dragging to another file system * 104673: System link directories don't get monitored by fam * 99221: when nautilus crashes it respawns a draws a new windows showing $HOME * 76636: When not using default zoom, the rename font still uses the default zoom size. I'm going into hospital from tomo to friday and bugzilla has stopped responding, so I'm going to send this now anyway. Also some of those bugs may not exist yet in bugzilla, and their corectness might be questionable. I'm told that nautilus is not being branched for a while, so I've only picked bugs that I think can be fixed on the 2.2.x branch. If I'm wrong about any of them in this regard, the nautilus maints might point that out for us. Also If anyone knows any bugs that fit into this catagory then let us know. I'm particularily focusing on bugs that are annoying but not overly hard to fix. But there might be some toughies too. If people think that my "favorite nautilus bugs" are any way useful I may stick up a web page with a more detailed list, including 2.3 bugs and issues. [1] If your looking for something to fix a good tip is to search in the nautilus module for summaries like "Trash" or "Rename" or "Home" and you will get a list of bugs, so of which will be crap, but some of which will be useful bugs to fix. Try for various other feature of nautilus. [2] There will hopefull be a (different) bugilla applet in 2.3 gnome-applets but for the moment this is the easiest one to install. -- .--= [ MArk Finlay - sisob ] =--.
