Ekiga is excellent if you are looking for voice/SIP.
If you are using SIP there are lots of clients and services; there
really isn't much need for one-client-to-rule-them-all across multiple
platforms.

However, the fundamental question is not about a client of IM/VoIP, but
rather, as with a communication system/client integrated into GNOME.
