This is just a guess, but I'd suspect an Ubuntu bug, since I've never
heard of anyone having trouble with this list before. You might want to
report it downstream and see where it goes. (Pressing the + should
display all applications with desktop files on your system.)

Thanks Michael, by 'downstream' you mean as a Ubuntu bug or on the
Ubuntu list? I posted the same thing to the Ubuntu list last night
however there have been no replies as of yet. The screenshot shows what
I get when clicking the +. There appears an area to enter something but
it doesn't work.
