Gnome version

These may seem like a pretty basic question to many on this list and
they probably are however I need to ask. I'm not new to Linux or Gnome
in fact I've been running Linux for at least 10yrs now. I recently
switched to Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS after my old Mandriva box finally gave in
and died. During one of my software installs (can't remember which it
was) I upgraded Gnome from 3.10 which comes with 14.04 to 3.12.2 (or is
this just Gnome-Shell)? My version of Evolution is 3.12.7 which I've
reported several bug on and I've been told have been fixed in .8.
Question being, and hopefully someone will help me out, how do I upgrade
Evolution to 3.12.8 without totally breaking my system, or is it even
possible?

Thanks
Chris
