Thanks a lot!
The following sequence worked for me:
Select Edit ▸ Preferences ▸ General.
Check Enable mnemonics.
I believe it was enabled by default in previous versions, don't know
why it is now disabled by default.

However, still the first question is opened:
do not see the shortcut for the menu entries that I usually have,
like:
Alt/E for edit
Alt/F for file
