Re: Gnome 3

Hello,

I know that I can not kick too much as Linux and Gnome are all free...
but..

I really really really do not like Gnome 3.
I had to change my distro to get Gnome2 back.
I am sorry, that's it.

Cheers

Ka.

If you have lots of users, you will have users who have problems or
don't like something. That is just built-in.

for one, you can't make any changes to panels (i.e.
panel height, opacity, adding apps to panels, etc.) can't change fonts
or font sizes.
Is this really true? I don't think so. There are lots of things I can
adjust with GNOME Tweak Tool. And most of that is driven by themes; so
changing your theme lets you change lots of things. In the a11y menu I
can adjust for high contrast, large font size, etc...

There are certain programs that don't work with gnome 3,
but you guys won't know that because you don't necessarily check to find
out what works with it and what doesn't...for instance, xiphos bible
software doesn't work with gnome 3...it only works up to kernel 3.0.0-1,
If it is a "kernel" issue it isn't a GNOME problem. An app being broken
by a kernel version is certainly odd, and probably a problem with the
application. And I've run Xiphos under GNOME3 on openSUSE 11.4 - it
worked then at least.

after that, nothing, it'll start briefly, then die.
If you run it from gnome-terminal do you see an error message /
back-trace when it fails.

so do us all a favor, do a little more
research in what works with new kernels before assuming that they'll be
ok with everyone...
That isn't a GNOME problem.

.because what I'm seeing in my local forum is nothing
short of horrible, people (users) having all kinds of problems, but no
one to take responsibility or willingness to fix it......cheers
The Internet has a *powerful* negative bias; so be careful how much you
read into it. Happy people don't post, unhappy people do (because
they have a motivation to do so). Just as people don't BLOG as much
about stuff that just-works, but about problems them have or fix. If
you perceive the world solely through the Internet you doom yourself to
pessimism and negativity.

There are many many happy GNOME3 users. They are just busy using their
apps in GNOME3 and not posting about how happy they are.
