Gconf2 Not Working

Hey, everyone,

I just installed GNOME 2.24 on Gentoo and seem to have got into a bit
of trouble over Gconf2. Notably:

[1] vlad cormyr ~ $ gconftool-2 -R  /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/http
 needs_terminal = false
 command = firefox %s
 enabled = true

Despite this, clicking on any link opens up a new, empty, Epiphany. The
same holds for https. I've gone through several restarts, all to no
avail. What could be wrong?
