I don't know if this is the proper list for this. If not, please
direct me elsewhere.
I am running Mandrake 9.1. The other day, like a knucklehead, I tried
compiling some program which required upgrades to a seemingly endless
list of libraries. glib-2.0 seemed to be the key missing one, as none
of the required atk, pango and gtk+-2.4.9 would compile until glib-2.0
was present. Somehow during the process I was instructed to remove
old glib libraries from /lib and re-run ldconfig; also, to add a
PKG_CONFIG_PATH to /etc/profiles. Well, the other libraries now
compiled just fine. However, all gnomish programs are now completely
broken! I clumsily re-installed from the Mandrake disks every conceivable
library looking like it even wanted to *start* with a g. Did I say I
was pretty frustrated by now? I tracked down all of the symlinks from
an ldd of gdm; all existed. But gdm isn't displaying any images.
Entering gnome causes a whole slew of error messages about image
display. Ditto running any gnome game.
Here are the errors I get from a couple of programs:
[0 ~]$ gnome-stones

Hoping that someone can tell me what I need to do to restore my system
to a working state! Let me know if I can give you some more
finely-tuned diagnostics.
Fortunately, must-have programs like the Gimp were not affected, but
my children are not happy about all of the missing games, and having
to use fluxbox.
TIA,
Scott Swanson
