Sorry about being vague and I apologize, like I said I am new to Linux
I will do my best to explain in detail.
I am running Debian(sarge) kernel 2.6.8-2-k7
I can stream music and play mp3 only from xmms only, others appear to
work but no sound comes out. Other players that I have tried are:
noatun
Kaboodle
music player
gnome-cd
juk
Error I get from some programs is:
Error while initializing the sound driver:
device /dev/dsp can't be opened (No such device)
The sound server will continue, using the null output device
I tried to install the drivers from nvidia and I get this error:
ERROR: Unable to load the kernel module 'nvsound.o'. This is most
likely because the kernel module was built using the wrong kernel source
files. Please make sure you have installed the kernel source files for
your kernel; on Red Hat Linux systems, for example, be sure you have the
'kernel-source' rpm installed. If you know the correct kernel source
files are installed, you may specify the kernel source path with the
'--kernel-source-path' commandline option.
The I checked to make sure the correct kernel source is installed
What I meant by system sounds are the beeps, sounds from installed games
etc... which don't work or when I get them to work it always freeze X.
When trying to play a dvd, sound does not play through that either.
Sorry about the KDS yes I did mean KDE.
I am not so much worried about getting the 6 speakers working as I am
just getting the sound issue worked out.
I also tried to disable aRts with no luck (same problem)
Thanks for you patients and you time to help me out
and I hope his is a little better.
