Does this happen all the time, or only some of the time?
Does it happen after a specific thing you type or click?
Does it happen when you are indeed using a network (ie,
connecting to another computer), or when it is just running
things on your desktop computer? (X actually uses networking
all the time: the computer makes network connections to -itself-,
even if it is not on a network apart from that, which is why
you can get errors about networks when your machine is not
on a network!)
Finally: does this happen when you have been using su,
su -x, sudo, ssh or anything which lets you change which
user you are running as? Sometimes X can be picky about
that, too
.
