reboot/shutdown/logout options MIA on Debian?

Hi, all.  I just set up one of my engineers with Debian instead of his old
notebook with Red Hat.  When he logs out, he only goes back to the GDM
screen, but is never presented with the "logout, shutdown, reboot" options
that were present for his Red Hat machine.  How do I get 'em back?
