menu bar applet

Two questions:
1. Is there anyway to make a menubar panel transparent in gnome2.2 ?
2. When using the menubar applet how would I add a logout button/lock
button/recent file/screenshot buttons under the Actions menu. Right now It
just displays "show desktop".
