GNOME 2 and gconf.xml.defaults files in misc directories

We have GNOME 2.0.2 installed in /opt/gnome and GGV 1.99.95
installed in /opt/ggv. I can get GConf to read the
/opt/ggv/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults file by editing either
~/.gconf.path or /opt/gnome/etc/gconf/path. Is it possible to set a
variable pointing at additional gconf.xml.defaults directories rather
than editing the above files?
