One Initial Desktop For All

Hello,

we are in the process of distributing one custom and some standard
applications to several thousand desktops. The desktop is based on gnome2.
The goal is to give each user a standardized, preconfigured, minimal
desktop, which switches back to the standard configuration after he logs
out. How can we accomplish this goal?
