Re: Internet Problems with Gnome

Rick,

I have exactly the same problem with the same setup, and also had it
with MD8.0. The only difference between kppp's behaviour and that of
Gnome that I managed to find before giving up and staying with kppp was
that kppp seemed to go straight to /dev/tts/LT0 where my modem is,
whereas Gnome went to /dev/modem (a symlink pointing to it), even though
both are set up to go to /dev/modem - according to the system log. Why
and if this should make a difference I do not know, and as I do not know
how to make the Gnome one go straight to /dev/tts/LT0 I have given up.
If this helps you sort it out please let me know so I can try mine! I
have so many other problems with Linux at the moment I have no time to
deal with things that I can circumvent. My wife cannot understand why I
have abandoned Windows - in which everything seems to just work - and at
times I can see her point!

Good luck,

John
