gnome-terminal perferences

Hi,

is there a way to change a gnome-terminal preference _globally_ and for all
existing gnome-terminal sessions as well.

for example, I wish to change the "select-word-by-character" sequence, and
apply that to all gnome-terminals, both presently on my desktop, as well as any
new gnome-terminal.

I cannot seem to accomplish either of these at the moment.
