Are you sure that you haven't compiled GConf-1.0.7 with a prefix outside
of your PATH ??

I mean usually without any given --prefix the most programs install
under /usr/local. /usr/local/bin
for example is not in the  PATH on my machine (OK, I didn't want to have
it in the PATH).

Try the following to see if there are any results:

find / -name gconf-config*

Maybe it is just named gconf-config.sh
