Yes, that's the single most frustrating message I've ever gotten from the Solaris ld: "nyah nyah, I know where this symbol is because of shared library dependencies, but I'm not going to follow the dependencies unless you explicitly tell me to". (So what's the point of embedding dependencies in a shared library if it's going to stick its tongue out at you instead of following them? Sheesh.)
