Advanced nautilus is for what?

Hi, I don't know if this is a bug or not.  I just installed the latest
nautilus from ximian.

I thought that I could select advanced, change the prefs, then select
intermediate and change the prefs again, so that I could flick between
to different settings quite quickly.  

For example I like to be able to setup so that in the advanced mode it
shows all backups and hidden files and in the other modes it does not.

Is this a bug or is my understanding of this feature wrong?
