Geoffrey,

While I can not help that much, I would like to say that I have the same problem on my system, RH 7.1.  This compile line worked:

./configure --prefix=/usr/local --with-bonobo

And this one failed:

./configure --prefix=/usr/local --with-bonobo --with-gconf

I'm glad that I was not the only one to have this problem. Maybe the developer can shed some light on this? Here is the detect output from the ./configure program with the config that fails. Hope this helps:

checking for Gnome App libraries (GAL) >= 0.15.99.9... 0.18.1 found
checking for Gnome configuration applet libraries >= 1.0.0... 1.4.0.1 found
checking for Gnome print libraries >= 0.29.0... 0.32 found
checking for GdkPixbuf >= 0.8.0... 0.13.0 found
checking for glibwww >= 0.2... not found
configure: WARNING: `testgtkhtml' will not be built.
checking for libghttp >= 1.0... found
checking for Bonobo >= 0.32... found ("1000")
checking if Bonobo uses OAF... "yes"
checking for gconf... found (1.0.7)
