That's just wrong

For months now bonobo-moniker-archiver has been seg faulting whenever I
log in to gnome and whenever I try to set an image on my desktop (which
fails). Not surprisingly background-properties-capplet was also seg
faulting at one point...until it magically stopped. Forced reinstalls
(with --allfiles) of bonobo, bonobo-conf, control-center, libcapplet,
deletions and thrashing in .gnome/Background and
.gnome/capplet-archive/default (and probably a lot more I am forgetting)
did nothing to address bonobo-moniker-archiver's attitude problem. I
looked at it a few times but after 6 months out of work I have other
priorities.

I have spent the past day or so in windows (had to use Visual Age for
Java) came back, noticed there was no segfault and proceeded to set a
background image without hassle.

It just fixing itself without my assistance is morally, ethically and
aesthetically wrong.

Now, one possibility is that *just* before I spent the time in windows I
was most of the way through setting up samba on my home network. I was
messing around with file permissions, users and groups so *maaaaybe*
some configuration file or, well, /sumthin/ suddenly became usable by
the-me-that-isn't-root.

At any rate, it's wrong, I am outraged and I want Congress to do
something about it.
