installing gnome on solaris

I'm having some troubles getting gnome installed from source on solaris.
I've been following the install order from
which seems to be decent, but have come upon several errors.

Here are the first few:

gtkmm gives:
/usr/local/X11R6.4/include/X11/Xutil.h:898: ANSI C++ forbids declaration
`XXorRegion' with no type
make[3]: *** [window.lo] Error 1
make[3]: Leaving diectory
make[2]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/mnt/proj/ben/req6229-gnome1.4/gtkmm-1.2.5'
make: *** [all-ecursive-am] Error 2
[ben turing/proj/ben/req6229-gnome1.4/gtkmm-1.2.5]$

and gnomemm (which I assume is related) gives:
/bin/sh ../../libtool --mode=link gcc -g -O2 -o gnomemmtmp gnomemmtmp.o
gcc -g -O2 -o gnomemmtmp gnomemmtmp.o
make[3]: Leaving directory
Making all in gnome--
make[3]: Entering directory

make[4]: Entering directory
make[4]: *** No rule to make target `about_p.h', needed by `all-am'.
make[4]: Leaving directory
make[3]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[3]: Leaving directory

There are more packages which give errors, but these were the first to
misbehave so hopefully I can iron the problems out from here.
