gnome core's

i understand that gnome has some "issues" with core's........sometimes
when I start into gnome desktop even not starting an app yet.....my HD
spins out of controll...okay well you get idea :)...and sometimes doesn't
stop for several minutes......this troubles me...why does it do this is
there a probable cause or just something thats being addressed or my
particular configuration since installing......

i heard on another list i think it was about this that someone else has
this going on and wanted to ask
if there was anything I could do for now to help minimize this waste of HD
useage :)..
