Personally I think its bad bad double-plus bad that Gnome adopted the
"Windows" convention of CTRL = command in the interface.  COntrol
characters have a specific ANSI meaning that both Microsoft and the Gnome
team have blythly ignored.  This plays havoc with terminal and other
communication apps where it is desirable to send control codes, NOT signal
the interface.

NeXT and Apple got it right IMO.
