Mozilla/Java plug-in problem; won't start

Last evening, while within Mozilla 0.9.1, I installed the Java plug-in,
to run the NY Times Crossword Puzzle. Mozilla will now not start. I
get: "The program must close to allow a previous installation attempt
to complete. Please restart"
The Java plug-in works fine in Netscape. Any guidance on how to fix
this will be much appreciated.
