hmmm -- tasklist and deskguide applets gone this morning

ok, logged into my workstation this morning to find the panal has lost the
tasklist and the deskguide applets, and it will not let me add them back.
what's going on here? how can they just remove themselves from the panel (they
were there when i logged out yesterday evening), how do i get them back?
