Will not HALT computer

Hi,
   Since installing RH 7.0, Gnome will not shutdown the computer when
requested to do so.
It simply gets to a prompt, but never shuts it off.   Executing
"shutdown -h now"  works fine, and executing Halt in KDE works
correctly, so I know it's a Gnome issue only.
Is there is fix for this?
