Helix login problems for rookie.

I'm running Helix on a solaris 7 SUN box
WHen i login I get the 2 following popups
1. gmc  ->No response to the SaveYourself command ...
2. DeskGuide (The DeskTop Pager) applet appears to have died ...


How can I fix these?  Our sysadmins do not support GNOME and I do not
have any rights (other than read/execute) to the iinstallation directory
/opt/gnome
