Why are you doing all this work yourself? That's what apt-get is for.

Add the following line to your /etc/apt/sources.list:

  deb http://spidermonkey.ximian.com/distributions/debian unstable main

Then type:

apt-get update
apt-get install task-helix-gnome


Then you're done. Remember, there's a *lot* of packages in task-helix-gnome,
so you may want to install task-helix-core. Also, Peter may have updated
these to be task-ximian-* by now, not sure.
