Does Gnome ppp Dialer Work?

Myself and other Linux users have never had any success getting Gnome ppp dialer to work under Mandrake 7.1/7.2, Storm 2000 Hail (Debian) or Libranet 1.8.2 (Debian). We have tried every imaginable setting. Does this dialer really work? Has anyone else had this problem and solved it? We have no problem setting up other dialers such as pon/poff, WMppp, Storm dialer or kppp. Any advice greatly appreciated.
