Ben,
When Gnome locks, everything locks. The mouse, the CTRL+ALT+BKSP, and
all
process daemons. This machine is my home network router and when I've
had
the lockup occur other machines cannot access shares and the router
doesn't
forward any packet traffic. It is simply dead.
This is on a RedHat 6.2 machine and this occurred when it was a
RedHat 6.0
that I upgraded some time ago.
Let me know if you need anything else.
  Best Regards,
  Art
