Gnome card fails?

I get the following error when I try to run gnomecard:

------------------
[len:35] ~/.gnome $ gnomecard

** WARNING **: Could not get name service!

** WARNING **: Could not get name service!

** ERROR **: file goad.c: line 1237 (goad_server_register): assertion
failed: (name_server != CORBA_OBJECT_NIL)
aborting...
Aborted (core dumped)
[len:36] ~/.gnome $
------------------

This just started happening, and does not happen for root (the only
other user account on my personal box). I've changed nothing in my
network setup, either, except to rerun the Firestarter wizard, allowing
my local NIC access to the other PC on my network (the RH72 installation
broke this, which previously worked).

Auto-completion of addresses in Balsa continues to work, so apparently
the addressbook file is OK as well. I've even renamed my
~/.gnome/GnomeCard and tried, but to no avail. It won't launch from
within Balsa, either.

Any ideas?

Thanks.
