KDE plays cds perfect Gnome doesnt: why?

I don't have any problems playing cds in kde despite doing other things
browsing etc. With gnome I get the following problems
gtcd will loop a section of a cd say going up to 30s in a track and then
looping back to 20s
grip and gtcd will just stop play for no reason.
From console I get no error messages.
Is this a esound daemon problem? I.e. what should I associate the bug to
on bugzilla?
