The problem is that there are different ways for your window manager
to divide up your workspaces.
In Sawfish, for example, you can have multiple "workspaces," which are
logically separate areas, and then divide those "workspaces" up into
additional rows and columns - which look, for all practical purposes,
like separate workspaces. Desk Guide can drag windows between rows
and columns on a workspace, but not between workspaces.
In this case, you're likely trying to drag between "workspaces". You
can achieve the same effect by setting up a single "workspace" and
then dividing it up into the number of rows and columns you need. Then
you can drag to your heart's content.
Other window managers use other jargon to describe the same thing. In
Enlightenemnt, the top-level distinction is "desktops," I believe, and
you then divide "desktops" into "screens."
