We're aware of this problem and trying to figure out the best way to address
it.

Medusa does overlap with what slocate did, but besides the file names that
slocate indexes it also indexes the contents of text files and other file
attributes like size and MIME type.

If you don't run the Medusa indexing and search daemons, Nautilus will still
work fine. I'm not sure exactly what you'd need to do to turn them off.
