When they were in the 1.1.x stage and updating a lot, I had such 
trouble with diffs for gnome-core and gnome-applets that I gave up 
trying to save my bandwidth and just started grabbing the entire
things instead: they were _always_ rejecting hunks and refusing
to patch cleanly.

So I don't think this is a new problem.
