re: upgrade loses icons - this question never answered?

Hello,

  Sorry for wining. I finally just deleted my .gnome and
.gnome-desktop directories and logged into gnome again. 
Eventually the icons came up - pretty nice! But it was 
kind of inconvenient to have to redo some of my 
customizations.
