Question about File Manager

Hi all.

I've decided to use the GNOME File Manager with my FVWM2 desktop.  This
is my first use of it after a few years with TkDesk.  I have a couple of
questions:

Where is the configuration file?  I'd like to set some preferences not
found in the dialog boxes, like getting rid of all the icons that come
up with it.  I would like to also get rid of that annoying splash when I
log in as root.  Finally, I'd like to get rid of Emacs as the default
editor.  How are all these things done?
