Your first step is learning the Gtk+ toolkit. Gtk+ is a set of
widgets that form the core of the Gnome user interface.
A "widget" is a user interface component, such as a scrollbar,
menu, button, or text field.
http://www.gtk.org has links to instructions and tutorials. After
that, look at http://developer.gnome.org for more information on the
additional Gnome widgets and other, non-GUI components of Gnome.
