WIndow manager pauses after window delete

I am running gnome 1.2 (helix) with the sawfish wm. When a window is deleted
or minimised, there is a pause of 1 to a few seconds where the wm (or X) doesn't
update the borders of the underlying windows, and doesn't respond to events.
similarly these is a pause (perhaps less obvious) when a new window is created
before the border appears. This hasn't been the case with other wms (fvwm2,
enlightenment fully configured).

Is this something configurable with sawfish, or is it some sort of bug?

Andy Lees.
