XF86 4.0.1

I recently installed RedHat 6.2 and I was using the gnome desktop quite
happily, but today i just updated to XF86 4.0.1. and now when i do
"startx" i don't get the nice gnome desktop but rather some unix-esque (i
have no clue what it is, i'm a mac person myself, and fairly new to all
this jazz...) terminal windows

is my gnome gone?
can i get it back, if so how?
if not, can i download a new one from somewhere, and will it work on
4.0.1?

any help would be greatly appreciated...
