Debian Slink is a very old release, and is linked against libc5,
whereas modern Linux distributions use glibc 2.0.x or 2.1.x as their C
library. As such, the packages we distribute for Debian Woody
definitely won't work on your Slink system. Support for Slink is
something we'd like to eventually add, but probably won't happen for a
while.

Although not currently tested in house, we have received a number of
reports of success installing these packages on Debian Potato (the
current frozen distribution, soon to become the stable release).

If you don't want to upgrade your machine, you may be able to rebuild
from the source packages we provide; however, you will probably need
to upgrade Debian infrastructure tools like dpkg and apt.
Unfortunately, I don't know of anyone who has done this, so I can't
say for sure.

PS: as a fellow Debian user, I have to recommend that you upgrade to
the Potato distribution once it has completed the test cycles and is
released. A lot has changed, all for the better, since Slink was
released.
