RE: gmc

Nope, not the issue here. gmc runs as the desktop, right? So a copy of gmc
runs as a process every time you start GNOME (ps and you'll see, even with
file manager closed). Anyone ever try to run gmc without GNOME running?
Still starts the desktop, right?

This user wants to run gmc (or any file manager) standalone. No GNOME.
He's looking for a simple file manager with drag and drop capability without
having to run as a desktop process. Can it be done?

Shutdown GMC, and save your session. Next time you log in, gmc won't be
started. When you need it, just select "File manager" from your foot menu.
If that doesn't work, you can try using the session manager capplet to
delete the entry for gmc.
